Island Beach

Island Beach State Park is located right down the road from Seaside Heights. It is a state park with beautiful beaches, fishing areas, and wildlife preserves. You can enjoy the beautiful Jersey Shore beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. With close to ten miles of sandy beaches, Island Beach State Park is the place to go to enjoy the Jersey Shore.

Island Beach is actually a barrier island that helps to protect shoreline habitats. On one side is the Atlantic Ocean, on the other side is Barnegat Bay. Besides having great beaches, many fisherman flock to Island Beach State Park for the surf fishing. With dense maritime forests, sand dunes, and tidal marshes, wildlife is abundent on Island Beach State Park. You may see a fox, osprey, blue heron, or other shore habitant while walking along the many nature walks. There are observatories where the visitor can sit and view the inhabitants of the tidal marshes.

With over 400 species of plants, Island Beach State Park is a great place to observe the flaura and fauna. And right accross the inlet is the Barnegat Lighthouse, a historic landmark located in Barnegat Light, a small town on Long Beach Island. This makes Island Beach State Park a photographers paradise.

There is a per vehicle fee to get into the park. You can call the Island Beach State Park office (732-793-0506) from 9:00 A.M - 4:30 P.M. with any questions you may have.
